Thrifty Thursday - Corn Necklace
String
Needle
Multi-colored corn (Indian Corn)
1. Remove the corn kernels from the cob.
2. Cover the kernels with water and let them soak for a few days. When they were nice and soft, we rinsed and dried them.
3. Thread a medium sized needle with embroidery thread.
4. Pierce each kernel with the needle and pull through to thread. Complete with desired length of string.
As we worked with the corn, we talked about how each little kernel is a seed. That if we planted it and watered it, it would grow into a great big corn plant. We talked about how we cook corn, the different things we can do with corn. We talked about how people can grind the corn kernels into corn flour and make corn bread and corn tortillas.
